10cc – Clever Clogs – Interview – Graham Gouldman

10cc Featuring Graham Gouldman and friends IN CONCERT – CLEVER CLOGS
Filmed at Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London

‘I’m not in love’, ‘Rubber Bullets’ and ‘Dreadlock Holiday’ — Classic tracks from one of the most interesting and talented bands to ever grace the world of music, are all included in this live collection of songs alongside new tracks and presented on DVD for the very first time.

10cc were formed in 1972 with the line up of Eric Stewart, Graham Gouldman, Kevin Godley and Lol Creme. The rulebook was thrown out of the window as their unrivalled songs injected with sharp wit and lyrical dexterity plucked melodies and subject matter from previously undiscovered waters to turn the band both into chart regulars and darlings of the critics. They were one of many bands dubbed at the time as ‘the new Beatles’ — but unlike most of the others, 10CC actually came close to the Fab Four in terms of hits and quality. After Godley and Creme left in 1976, Eric and Graham decided to carry on as 10cc and were augmented by, amongst others, guitarist Rick Fenn and drummer Paul Burgess. And the hits kept on coming.

Then after years of lying dormant while they all pursued other ventures Graham Gouldman along with Fenn, Burgess, Mick Wilson and Mike Stevens has taken to the road again as “10cc featuring Graham Gouldman and friends’. This DVD includes two appearances that Kevin Godley made as one of the ‘friends’ at a gig in Cardiff- when he graced the stage for the first time in almost 30 years and again at the landmark Shepherd’s Bush Empire show in London.

The set list on the DVD includes no fewer than 17 hit songs including some written by Graham for other artists including the Yardbird’s For Your Love and the Hollies’ Bus Stop .The DVD “Clever Clogs” also features original artwork and an interview from the originator of all of 10cc’s best known album artwork the legendary designer , and founder of Hipnosis, Storm Thorgerson.

The band which includes Take That and Mica’s musical director Mike Stevens and the multi talented Mick Wilson will be playing a series of concerts in support of this release including a showcase at London’s Indigo venue on May 1st.

Tracklisting: Son Of Man (excerpt), The Wall Street Shuffle, The Things We Do For Love, Good Morning Judge, I’m Mandy- Fly Me, Life Is A Minestrone, Art For Art’s Sake, Bus Stop, Look Through Any Window, For Your Love, Old Wild Men, beautifulloser.com, Silly Love, Donna, The Dean And I, Bridge To Your Heart, I’m Not in Love, Dreadlock Holiday, Ready To Go Home, Rubber Bullets

Bonus Materials:

- Extended conversation with Graham Gouldman about the songs and how they were written
- The Art of 10CC with Storm Thorgerson
- Kevin Godley on stage with 10cc in Cardiff

The DVD is released on 12 May 2008, and is available from all good retailers.

Zolar X “Timeless” Documentary Teaser

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

THEN: From 1973 to 1981 Zolar X gained notoriety on the west ocast USA for seemingly dressing and acting like space-aliens 24 hours a day! Their outlandish image was matched by strong sonwriting, performances, and over the top stage sets. Zolar X were for a time the “house band” at famed rock star hangout Rodney Bingenheimer’s English Disco, and shared stages with Iggy Pop, The New York Dolls, Ray Manzarek, Jobriath, Berlin Brats, and Silverhead (among others). Kiss would check them out and Zolar X slugged it out against all odds in the pre-DIY rock scene. The now cliched factors of substance abuse, mental illness, bad management, and intolerant girlfriends derailed their career. A 1982 posthumous LP (Timeless) became a holy grail for record collectors, and sealed Zolar X’s legacy.

NOW: Longtime fan Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) released a deluxe edition of Timeless in late 2004. Inspired, Zolar X reformed in 2005! Lucky fans should expect metallic amp casings, silver platforms and backdrops, antennae headgear, and ever-changing outfits faithful to the 70’s glam era. Whether you are glam, a punk, an indie-rocker, a cult (Psychotronic) movie fan, or still about how Rush sold out in the 80’s, Zolar X has something for you! Catch them now, before they once again, leave earth!

Sanuk Shoe (sorry Sandal!) Review

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Sanuk’s (pronounced Sah-Nook) marketing campaign is “It’s not a shoe, it’s a sandal.”

After wearing them for the past 6 months I’d have to agree. They’re lightweight, extremely comfortable, breathe well, and are easy to put on/take off. Although a bit trendy (e.g. hemp models, worn by surfers/rock climbers/musicians, cheeky website campaign) and expensive ($55-$65 – look on sights like Amazon.com for deals), Sanuks are a quality product for lazy people like me who hate to fiddle with laces and just want to slip something on and off when heading out the house.

Unfortunately, because of their sandal-like nature, care should be taken when walking on wet, smooth surfaces like linoleum, tile, and metal. Also, I wish they would make them in solid black with no fringes so that I could wear them to the office.

However, for laid-back weekend shoes that you can wear to the beach, these are hard to beat.
Available online and at your local REI.

Check’em out….Brah.
